Received ‘Emergency Alert: Severe’ On Your Phone? Just A Test Message, Don’t Panic!

On Friday at noon, an 'Emergency Alert: Severe' banner appeared on multiple smartphones. Some of the readers really became alarmed by the sudden incoming of the text, but it advised readers to not take any actions and to keep calm as the same was just a test.

"This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through the Cell Broadcasting System by the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to the TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies," said the flashed message on multiple smartphones today around 1:30 PM IST.

The message is very clear in nature as it says, “No action is required from your end”.

A notable point is that this flash message has appeared only on Android phones and not on iOS devices as shown in ABP Live. Also, the flash message has not appeared for the first time, rather, the same happened in August this year too.

Cell broadcast is a method to distribute emergency alerts that mainly include, severe weather warnings, earthquakes, floods, and similar disasters.
