Xiaomi Launches Redmi Go Smartphone to Target Entry Level Buyers

Xiaomi launched Redmi Go device for Indian customer who are looking to buy new device under very affordable price.

This make in India device has been priced under 4.5k range for entry level customer. Apart from this the brand has also made some major announcements at today's launch event. Xiaomi announced its renewed commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative with its seventh manufacturing plant in India, in partnership with Flex Ltd.

Xiaomi also launched Redmi Go, the company's newest addition to its smartphone portfolio. With an aggressive price tag, Redmi Go makes a great entry-level smartphone.

In addition, Xiaomi announced its own UPI payment solution app – Mi Pay for millions of Xiaomi MIUI users in india enabling them to access digital payment solutions.

Redmi Go: 4G meets Smartphone for Everyone

A quad-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 425 processor in tandem with 1GB of RAM powers the smartphone with Android Oreo (Go edition) offering a fluid experience to everyone. Users can take sharp and detailed photos and record video in full-HD resolution using the 8MP rear camera, while the 5MP sensor on the front allows for great selfies. A 5-inch (12.7cm) HD touchscreen display (1280 x 720p) recreates bright and vivid colours, while ensuring that Redmi Go is a handy phone that sits comfortably in any hand.

With 1GB RAM and 8GB on-board storage, Redmi Go offers support for 4G VoLTE with dual SIM support and a dedicated microSD card that can work with up to 128GB cards. All of this is powered by a 3000mAh battery, delivering a battery life that Mi Fans have come to expect of Xiaomi.

Redmi Go will be available Blue and Black colour variants for INR 4,499 starting 12 noon, 22nd March across Mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Home stores. Users will also get an INR 2,200 cashback with 100GB* data free with Jio.

Mi Pay: The Easy Way to Pay

Xiaomi also officially launched its Mi Pay app, the easy way to pay for millions of MIUI users in India. Serving as a one-stop solution for consumers' payment needs, Mi Pay is primarily a UPI-based application, deeply integrated within Xiaomi's MIUI interface across SMS, Contacts, Scanner, App Vault, and Settings. ICICI Bank is the payment service provider for Mi Pay. Consumers can effectively make payments using UPI and other debit cards, credit cards and internet banking across 120+ banks and over 120 billers.

The service will also allow several utility payments ranging from phone bills, phone recharges, water or electricity bill payments, making it highly convenient for Xiaomi users. Mi pay UPI has been approved by NPCI under the multi bank API model and it has been audited by CERT-IN empanelled auditors E&Y and Lucideus. Mi Pay provides the most safe and secure transactions with all data stored locally in India servers in an encrypted format.

Extending its commitment to Make in India with Flex

Xiaomi extended its commitment to the Make in India initiative with its seventh smartphone manufacturing plant. The manufacturing plant is in partnership with Flex Ltd, which has over 1 million square ft footprint across India. Xiaomi's manufacturing plant with Flex Ltd is in Tamil Nadu. Today, Xiaomi has seven smartphone manufacturing plants across four campuses in partnership with FOXCONN, Flex and Hipad. Few key statistics about Xiaomi India's manufacturing plants in India:

  • Xiaomi now has a combined manufacturing capacity of up to 3 smartphones per secondduring operating hours.
  • Currently, 99% of Xiaomi's smartphones sold locally are made in India.
  • Across these seven smartphone manufacturing plants, more than 20,000operators are employed, out of which over 95% are women employees.
  • Xiaomi is also bringing the component ecosystem to India. Early 65% of the value of the smartphone is sourced locally, highlighting the company's greater localization commitments.
  • In addition, even smartphone chargers, USB cables and batteries are nearly 100% locally sourced.

The company also partners with Navitasys India Private Limited, a TDK group subsidiary to manufacture Mi Power banks locally.
