“Western Digital Now Has A Larger And Diverse Portfolio Of Solutions”

The year 2018 has been a testament to that aim with our large array of innovative storage solutions that best fit the data storage requirements for our customers, be it big data, fast data or personal data. Jaganathan Chelliah, Director – Marketing, Western Digital, India talks more on overall market growth and company's channel plan with DT.

DT:  How has been the overall growth of storage market in year 2018?

Mr. Jaganathan: The Indian external storage market has witnessed a double-digit year on year growth in the year 2018. This growth is primarily driven by the increase in usage by the enterprise segment. The enterprise segment has data needs increasing due to acceptance of emerging technologies and growing demand across industries, from telecommunications, banking, professional services, manufacturing and government services.  We also believe there is an increase in the consumer segment due to data needs in day-to-day life, festive season etc.

DT: What factors are driving growth in personal storage space?

Mr. Jaganathan: In the personal storage space, microSD™ cards, USB flash drives and external hard drives displayed a growing demand due to the proliferation of high-end PCs and mobile phones . WD®-brand My Passport™ portable drive series displayed an exceptional performance in both e-tail as well as the retail markets. The mobile pen drive is another category that has received strong acceptance in the market. Our offerings in this category include the SanDisk® Dual Drive and SanDisk iXpand™ drive that are designed for phones and come with dual ports that allow users to connect both to their phones and a computer.

DT: How do you assure to provide best storage solutions for large companies? 

Mr. Jaganathan: On the enterprise side, our datacenter solutions have been our primary focus. Enterprises across segments understand the potential of data in unlocking opportunities for their business, and are always on the lookout for solutions that allow them to take smarter decisions, make breakthrough discoveries and build deep connections. Our JBOD platforms, a high-capacity, enterprise solution have displayed great performance in this market. Another category where we have witnessed good traction is the surveillance segment, with our WD Purple portfolio being deployed by SOHO and corporate users alike.

DT: What will be your key agenda to work in new calendar Year?

Mr. Jaganathan: We are in an era of data explosion, where every individual has the power to generate data. In the coming year, we will continue to work towards innovating and providing solutions that are specific to customer demands and storage requirements. The aim is to empower our consumers across segments – from end users, gaming, surveillance to enterprises – with reliable storage solutions that are easily accessible. We recently announced the SanDisk Extreme™ microSD card (400GB) and SanDisk Memory Zone (SMZ) App in the retail front and the iNAND™ MC EU321 embedded flash drive in the commercial segment. A key focus for us would be our G-Technology™ solutions, that cater to the needs of on-the-go creative professionals looking for robust storage solutions. Our surveillance portfolio will also be highlighted with the WD Purple HDD and WD Purple microSD card offering our consumers storage solutions from edge to core.

DT: How are you currently working with your partners to strengthen your market position?

Mr. Jaganathan: Our journey towards innovation is largely dependent on the cooperation and commitment of our channel partners. Through our recent mergers and acquisitions, Western Digital now has a larger and diverse portfolio of solutions. Educating our channel ecosystem plays a key role in ensuring that the right products are offered to the consumers based on their need. In line with this, we offer educational programs and workshops to our partners across the country. These trainings are conducted via different platforms including online, in-person and mobile apps.
