Huawei and Honor Educated The Developers at Huawei Developer Day (HDD) Conference

Huawei and HONOR organized the Huawei Developer Day (HDD) conference for the first time in India at Taj Palace, New Delhi. The event, which saw participation from 150 mobile app CTOs/developers from leading organizations, showcased the wide range of open technical capabilities and intelligence services that support the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) Ecosystem.

The conference provided the  developers an opportunity to understand the HUAWEI Mobile Services (HMS) Ecosystem and gain insights on digital innovations for user experience, ecosystem building and access to Huawei’s Open Capabilities with components like HMS Core, AI, AR, and VR.

Talking about the HMS ecosystem at the event Mr. Charles Peng, CEO, Huawei and HONOR India, Consumer Business Group said, “HMS has been growing at an unprecedented pace with a user base of 500 million and developer base of 1 million worldwide. This can be attributed to the fact that HMS is the great alternative for the developers to collaborate with and grow. We have always valued native collaborations across our business operations and look forward to strengthen our developer base in the respective country to create a holistic mobile ecosystem that can benefit our end consumer.”

The HMS Core kits were also introduced at the event, which is a collection of software development frameworks that help create a version of the app that is compatible with HONOR and Huawei devices. These included the location kit, map kit, push kit, account kit among others all aimed at enabling developers to accelerate the app development process at a lower cost.

HMS will be available globally with a variety of services such as the HUAWEI ID, Mobile Cloud, AppGallery, Themes, and HUAWEI Assistant. With a developer base of more than 1 million globally, HMS is well on its way to build a fully connected mobile ecosystem to ensure a seamless user experience to its audience.

Huawei Developer Day is a global program and so far, has been conducted in countries such as Poland, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand among others. HONOR and Huawei are all set to conduct more of such conferences in different parts of India in the following year.

Dell Technologies Rolls Out 2nd Edition of Student Entrepreneurship Program

Dell Technologies has launched ‘Student Entrepreneurship Program 2.0’, in association with NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), virtually. Following the success of the first Student Entrepreneurship Program, Dell Technologies and NITI Aayog announced the second series in the presence of Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, Mr. Ramanan, Mission Director, AIM, NITI Aayog and Dr. Anjlee Prakash, Chairperson, Learning Links Foundation and Mr. Alok Ohrie, President & MD, Dell Technologies India.

In the year 2016, Government of India’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog partnered with Dell Technologies to adopt Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) in select Government schools across India. The 10-Month Student Entrepreneurship Program helped the top six innovations of the Atal Tinkering Marathon to transform their innovative prototypes into functioning, scaled go-to-market products across six crucial themes having broader social impact. While the final six teams of the Tinkering Marathon 2017 are now entering the world of entrepreneurs, there is another batch of young talent that is ready to foray into the world of innovation and entrepreneurship. BMU Students Developed ‘Unlock Me’ Game to Educate Users About COVID-19

A B. Tech student Shreyansh Anchlia along with the ideation from faculty members Dr. Goldie Gabrani and Nishtha Phutela of BML Munjal University (BMU), a Hero Group initiative, has developed a game called ‘Unlock Me’, to help spread awareness about COVID-19. The game serves both an educational as well as an entertainment purpose. The background music has been composed by another B. Tech student of BML Munjal University, Gurramkonda Vishal Bharadwaj. It is available on all Android phones, running Version 4.4 and above. It is a secure app and asks for no personal information to start.

The game plays out as a simulation of real-life risks related to COVID-19, such as players getting infected by coming in the vicinity of coronavirus infected places and people. Players need to make the right choices and be wary of these risky practices as they move through the game, as these reduce their health.

Through a series of events, the player earns sanitizers which act like powerups. After gaining enough experience a question is presented in order to test the player’s knowledge regarding the current scenario. These questions are solved in a different section of the game where samples of the virus are analyzed.

In the course of the game, the player also gets to learn about announcements by the Health Ministry, which also educates them as they progress through the game. After completing a specific number of levels and getting all the answers right, the player unlocks a ‘cure’ for the virus, thereby unlocking a new mode in which the player needs to deliver it to those in need. Unlock Me has been developed in Unity3d as a top-down arcade game. New levels will be added to the game in the coming months, along with an Arena Mode that will get unlocked after level 100.

Speaking on the launch of the game, Prof Maneek Kumar, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology BML Munjal University says, “In these times, we read so many advisories related to COVID-19 but aren’t sure how they’ll play out once we’re out in the open again. The game Unlock me simulates the real-life situations and experiences to help give players an understanding and feel for discriminating between right practices and wrong practices, and thereby reduce their risk of contracting the virus.”

The gaming industry in India is gaining traction steadily, with a deeper penetration of the Internet and increased smartphone usage in the country. “BMU has taken a leap forward in tech innovation to create a game that has a deeper penetration and easier understanding for the masses”, said Prof. Manoj Arora, Vice Chancellor, BMU. The development of these state-of-the-art technologies and tech-oriented studies have allowed students and faculty to explore uncharted territories in the face of this pandemic and develop ingenious solutions that contribute to the betterment of society.
