EKA Launches its First Electric Bus ‘EKA E9’

EKA launched its newest 9-metre pure electric & zero-emission bus, EKA E9. The E9, EKA’s first battery-electric bus, features a new streamlined vehicle design, maximized power & range due to its monocoque stainless steel chassis and complete composite structure. With a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) lower than existing Internal Combustion engine powered buses, EKA E9 promises to deliver sustainability and profitability to all stakeholders.

The bus was unveiled at the hands of Shri. Aaditya Thackeray, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Environment & Protocol, Govt of Maharashtra, and Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Chairman, EKA & Pinnacle Industries Limited at The Pune Alternate Fuel Conclave (AFC), an initiative of the Government of Maharashtra, organised by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), in association with Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA).

With the launch of E9, EKA is committed to providing a solid platform for sustainable and efficient public transport in cities around the world, along with reliable and profitable operations for customers. As customers are moving to electric vehicles, EKA’s E9 pure electric bus provides a uniquely designed, optimized, indigenous product made in India with innovative monocoque stainless steel chassis that ensures best in class corrosion-free life, low noise, and vibrations, refined composite bus body design and an emphasis on safety, profitability, efficacy, reliability & performance.

EKA E9 comes with both front and rear air suspension with ECAS. With 2500 mm width, 31+D +Wheelchair (equipped with wheelchair ramp), the bus offers ample space for passenger (seating + standing) movement. The low entry / exit steps are ergonomically designed with kneeling features with lowest 650 mm floor height, making them extremely comfortable & accessible for the elderly, children, women & specially abled passengers. The enhanced ergonomics in driver’s cockpit, auto-drive feature, power-assisted with tilting and telescopic steering and all in one central console, provides riders and drivers with a smoother riding experience.

By far, the most aesthetically designed commercial vehicle, EKA E9 features a smiley front layout, stylish waver side panel and bigger glasses for panoramic views, giving it a more welcoming & futuristic appeal. EKA E9 is powered by an electric motor that generates maximum power of 200 KW and torque of 2500 NM, offering faster acceleration, more horsepower, greater traction power, industry-leading reliability, along with 17% gradeability to can tackle any terrain and a regenerative braking system.

With an advance chemistry powerful Li-Ion battery suitable for city operation, the battery system is safe, durable, and efficient. EKA E9 is also equipped with a vehicle control unit software designed in-house, with an integrated strategy for vehicle features.

Given the lightweight stainless steel monocoque chassis, the bus boasts phenomenal structural strength & durability, the composite body panels being rust-free, unlike traditional buses. EKA E9’s best in class safety features include Front and Rear Disc Brakes with EBS, CCS2 protocol fast charger, 4 Cameras, Emergency stop button, Fire extinguisher, Automatic Driver assistance system (ADAS). Designed with lowest centre of gravity, EKA E9 ensures stability at high speeds and turns and is easy to drive in the crowded and congested city traffic.

Ather Energy to Set-up EV Charging Grids Across The Country

Magenta ChargeGrid signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ather Energy, electric scooter manufacturer, to install Ather Grid fast chargers across charging locations. These charging stations shall be managed by Magenta under the ChargeGrid platform. This partnership is one of India’ first where integrated charging across 2W, 3W and 4W will be provided at a single location. This will give Ather access to multiple locations across India and aims to collectively accelerate the pace of expansion of public charging networks and the adoption of EVs in India.

Magenta ChargeGrid is currently expanding its charging network to 35-40 cities in India with the aim to set up a network of around 11000 chargers by the end of FY23. This partnership with Magenta ChargeGrid will give Ather Grid access to premium locations across Tier I, Tier II & Tier III cities and highways in India and provide wider coverage for EV customers. These locations are strategically placed to make it easily accessible to EV owners and will also have desired electricity load availability for operations of the chargers.

Speaking on the association, Mr. Maxson Lewis, Founder and Managing Director, Magenta said, “At Magenta ChargeGrid, we strive to accelerate the EV adoption in the country by creating an end-to-end EV ecosystem. Our partnership with Magenta is another step towards building this industry collaboration. It will bring increased convenience by setting up AtherGrids at hubs strategically identified by them. We will continue to lead the shaping of this industry with strategic partnerships on locations, connector standard collaborations, and working with the government on policy formulation.”

Magenta ChargeGrid has formed alliances with prominent DISCOMs across the country such as BSES, BESCOM and other key discoms with the goal of establishing a stronger EV charging ecosystem. The firm is also collaborating with multiple corporations in India with present association with bodies like Indore Municipal Corporation, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. This is in addition to our ongoing strategic tie-ups with key hotel chains such as Fern, IBIS, amongst others, to build EV charging infrastructure within cities and on highways.

Since 2018, Magenta ChargeGrid has been developing EV solutions which are ‘Made in India and made for Indian weather conditions and usage. Under the three business verticals, (Magenta ChargeGrid chargers as a product, charging as a service (ChargeGrid) and eMobility (EVET), Magenta ChargeGrid provides integrated solutions to develop the whole EV ecosystem.

The company has been investing in strategic partnerships to alleviate range anxiety and increase EV adoption in the country.  Ather has partnered with charging operators like Zeon Charging and retail partners like Decathlon, Cafe Coffee Day, Blue Tokai etc and 15 other brands.

Since its inception, Ather Energy has actively focussed on building a fast-charging network – Ather Grid and has also released its IP for the charging connector to all OEMs. Currently, Ather has installed around 330+ fast-charging Ather Grid Points across 35 cities in the country. One can charge up to 80% at 1.5 km/min at Ather’s fast charging Grid. In the next 3 years, Ather plans to install 5,000 fast chargers across India, and these strategic partnerships are progressive steps towards the goal.

Ather Energy has expanded its retail footprint across key cities in India and is currently present in 31 cities with 36 retail stores. Over the next three years, Ather plans to increase its annual production capacity to one million scooters from four lakhs by the end of 2022, develop new products and increase its network to 600 stores.

Greta Electric Scooters Opens New Manufacturing Unit at Faridabad

Greta Electric Scooters announced the setting up of a manufacturing unit at Faridabad. This move aims to expand its footprint in the Northern Indian market and is in response cater to the growing demand of electric vehicles.

The proximity to the National Capital Region and excellent access to the Northern Belt made Faridabad the destination of choice. This move will help reduce both cost & time to get products out to the market in the region.

The manufacturing facility with a capacity of producing 30,000 units annually will manufacture all models of Greta Electric Scooters.

With this move now Greta Electric Scooters will be able to reach its dealerships in 15-20 days across the region.

An elated Raj Mehta, Founder of Greta Electric Scooters, said, “Very excited with the new manufacturing facility in Faridabad. It is yet another step in being more accessible to our customers. This marks our unrelenting commitment to a greener world, with a commute that does not harm the environment. We plan to initiate an education drive to get more and more people to go the EV route, our small contribution to the GOI’s pledge to be zero-emission by 2030. We intend to look at local talent to fill vacancies that our expansion drive opens up.” 

Greta Electric Scooters distinguish themselves by offering best-in-class comfort and superior performance with mileage in the range of 100 km per charge. All four models come with DRL, EBS, reverse mode, ATA System, smart shift, Digital instrument cluster display, keyless start, disc brakes and anti-theft alarm. The battery casing is built of lightweight metal which is also thermally conductive when compared to other materials.
