Product Review: Infinix SMART 20

With the Infinix SMART 20, the company attempts to raise the bar by combining modern aesthetics with practical features such as a 120Hz display, AI powered software, enhanced durability, and an innovative communication feature called Ultra Link.

NDM News Network

The entry level smartphone category has become one of the most competitive segments in the Indian market, where consumers expect stylish designs, dependable performance, and long lasting battery life without spending a premium. With the Infinix SMART 20, the company attempts to raise the bar by combining modern aesthetics with practical features such as a 120Hz display, AI powered software, enhanced durability, and an innovative communication feature called Ultra Link. While the specifications appear promising on paper, the overall experience is what ultimately matters. Here's how the SMART 20 fares.

A Fresh Design That Feels Premium

Budget smartphones often compromise on design, but the SMART 20 manages to make a positive impression. The slim 7.7mm body feels comfortable in hand, while the textured rear panel gives the device a premium finish and offers better grip during everyday use.

The four colour choices including Shadow Black, Polaris Titanium, Sunlike Orange, and Cloudline Blue ensure there is something for every kind of user. Despite its affordable positioning, the overall fit and finish are impressive and the smartphone does not feel cheaply built.

The device also scores well on durability. An IP64 rating protects it against dust and water splashes, while Infinix claims the phone has undergone over 25,000 drop tests along with 1.5 metre drop protection. The addition of Oil and Greasy Touch support is a thoughtful touch that improves usability in day to day situations.

Display Built for Everyday Entertainment

One of the strongest aspects of the SMART 20 is its 6.78 inch Punch Hole display. The large screen offers plenty of space for watching videos, browsing social media, reading content, or attending online classes.

The 120Hz refresh rate significantly improves the overall experience by making scrolling and animations feel much smoother than conventional 60Hz displays. While the panel is LCD rather than AMOLED, colours appear balanced and the 700 nits peak brightness provides sufficient visibility outdoors.

For users upgrading from an older budget smartphone, the display will certainly feel like a noticeable improvement.

Performance That Prioritises Stability

Instead of chasing benchmark numbers, the SMART 20 focuses on delivering a smooth day to day experience. Powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate processor, the device handles routine activities like web browsing, social media, messaging, video streaming, navigation, and light gaming without difficulty. Applications launch reasonably quickly and multitasking remains stable.

The combination of 4GB RAM with MemFusion technology, which extends available memory up to 8GB, further helps during heavier multitasking. Storage expansion up to 2TB through a microSD card is another welcome addition, especially for users who prefer storing large amounts of media offline.

Although it is not built for demanding gamers, the overall performance remains dependable for its intended audience.

Ultra Link Adds a Unique Dimension

The most interesting feature of the SMART 20 is undoubtedly Ultra Link. Unlike traditional communication methods, Ultra Link allows users to exchange voice messages, images, text messages, and even make calls over a distance of up to one kilometre without mobile network coverage or a SIM card.

This capability may not be useful every day, but it can become valuable during trekking, camping, emergencies, industrial work sites, or locations where cellular coverage is unreliable. It is a refreshing innovation that genuinely differentiates the SMART 20 from many competing devices. Call quality also benefits from Voiceprint Noise Reduction and three dedicated noise cancellation modes, ensuring conversations remain clear even in noisy surroundings.

Software Experience

Running on XOS 16 based on Android 16, the SMART 20 delivers a modern software experience with useful AI enhancements integrated throughout the interface. The Folax Voice Assistant can be accessed instantly using the dedicated One Tap AI shortcut, allowing users to perform common tasks including making calls, scanning documents, identifying songs, setting reminders, and answering general queries.

The software feels responsive and the inclusion of regional language support makes these AI features more accessible for Indian users.

Battery That Keeps Going

Battery life is one area where the SMART 20 performs confidently. Its 5200mAh battery comfortably powers a full day's usage involving streaming, browsing, calling, messaging, navigation, and social networking. Users with lighter workloads can easily extend usage beyond a single day.

Charging is supported through 15W wired charging, while 5W reverse wired charging allows the phone to charge compatible accessories or another smartphone whenever required. Although charging speeds are not class leading, the battery endurance largely compensates for it.

Camera Performance

Photography is not the primary focus of the SMART 20, but the cameras perform adequately for everyday users. The smartphone includes an 8MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera, supported by software features such as Super Night Mode, Dual View Video, Panorama, Vlog Mode, Pro Mode, and Document Scanner.

Images captured in daylight offer acceptable detail and natural colours for social media sharing, while selfies remain suitable for video calls and casual photography. Low light performance is understandably limited, but that is expected within this segment.

Pricing and Availability

The Infinix SMART 20 is available in two variants:

• 4GB + 64GB – ₹12,499

• 4GB + 128GB – ₹13,999

It is available in Shadow Black, Polaris Titanium, Sunlike Orange, and Cloudline Blue colour options.

Telecom Today Verdict

The Infinix SMART 20 succeeds by focusing on practical everyday usability rather than headline specifications alone. It offers an attractive design, a smooth high refresh rate display, dependable performance, impressive durability, and excellent battery life in a well-priced package. The inclusion of Ultra Link gives the smartphone a distinctive identity and introduces functionality that is rarely found in the budget category.

While photography enthusiasts and power users may seek stronger cameras or faster charging elsewhere, the SMART 20 delivers where it matters most for mainstream consumers. For first-time smartphone buyers, students, and users looking for a stylish and reliable daily companion, it offers a compelling balance between features and affordability. Considering its design, display quality, durability, software experience, innovative connectivity features, and overall value for money, we rate the Infinix SMART 20 a strong 4 out of 5 stars.
