Instagram is getting a major glow-up—and it’s all about you and your friends. With its newest update, Meta is giving you fresh ways to discover, share, and connect with the people who make your social circle come alive.
Whether you want to see what your bestie is watching, share your favorite Reel with a note, or find out which café your group’s hanging out at—Instagram’s latest tools put your inner circle front and center.
Here’s what’s new and how it changes the game:
Reposts on Profile:
With the new Repost feature, users can now reshare public Reels and feed posts directly to their profile. These reposts appear in a separate Reposts tab, allowing followers to easily view what you’re enjoying or supporting. You can also add a message before reposting, making it easier to express yourself and share content that reflects your personality.
Map Location Sharing:
Instagram is also introducing a Map tool that lets you share your last active location with close friends or mutual followers. This feature is completely optional and comes with strong privacy controls. It also lets you discover posts from nearby locations—like a café, concert, or event—where your friends or favorite creators have recently shared content.
Friends Tab in Reels:
The new Friends tab in Reels gives you a personalized feed showing the videos your friends have liked, commented on, reposted, or created. Instead of only seeing content recommended by the algorithm, this tab focuses on what your circle is engaging with—making it easier to start conversations and stay in sync with what your friends are watching.
Together, these features mark a shift in Instagram’s approach, bringing attention back to real connections and shared experiences. The update is being rolled out globally and will be available to all users soon.
